EMOM

Every minute, on the minute. Do the work, rest with whatever time is left, start again when the clock ticks over.

EMOM stands for “every minute, on the minute”. When the clock starts a new minute you do a set amount of work, say eight kettlebell swings, and whatever is left of that minute is your rest. Finish in twenty seconds and you rest for forty. Take longer, and your rest shrinks to match.

That is what makes the format useful. The clock starts your next set whether you feel ready or not, so you cannot drift into five-minute rests between sets. The rest you do get keeps your reps cleaner than a non-stop circuit would. It suits practicing technique while mildly tired, because every minute is a fresh, small set rather than a long grind.

A typical Setkit EMOM rotates two to four exercises across the minutes. Minute one is lower body, minute two upper body, minute three core, then it repeats, for anywhere from 12 to 24 minutes. Pick rep counts you can finish in about 40 seconds when you are fresh. That spare twenty seconds is what keeps minute twelve looking like minute one.

If the clock starts catching you, and your reps are spilling past the minute, the weight or the rep count is too high for today. Cut it back and keep the structure.
