Hamstring exercises
The hamstrings straighten your hips and bend your knees. They power every hinge, sprint and deadlift.
The hamstrings do two separate jobs. They straighten the hip and they bend the knee, and complete training covers both. Hinge patterns like the Romanian deadlift and the good morning load the hip job through a long stretch. Bridges and curls cover the knee job.
Most people are quad-dominant to start with, simply because daily life bends the knees far more often than it folds the hips. Learning the hip hinge on purpose is the highest-value movement skill in lower-body training. It means pushing your hips back with a flat back and slightly bent knees, and you need it before kettlebell swings or deadlifts will work.
Hamstrings respond well to moderate weight and a controlled stretch. Expect them to be properly sore for the first few weeks of dedicated hinge work. Start with less volume than you think you need and build from there.
