Hypertrophy training
Moderate weights, controlled reps and real effort. The standard recipe for building muscle.
Hypertrophy means muscle growth, and the recipe for it is simpler than most people expect. Take a muscle through a full range of motion, with a weight you can control, and stop a couple of reps short of failure. Do enough sets across the week. Recover, then do it again.
A session pairs compound lifts at 8–12 reps with isolation work at 10–15 reps, resting one to two minutes between sets. Effort is the variable that decides whether it works. The last two or three reps of a set should be genuinely hard. Sets that stop well short of that do very little, and sets taken to total failure mostly just cost you recovery.
Compounds still come first. Balance matters more here than in pure strength work, so a good week covers pressing, pulling, squatting and hinging, and no muscle group quietly gets skipped.
Be patient, and be suspicious of anything promising speed. With consistent training, enough food and enough sleep, visible muscle growth takes months rather than weeks. No clever choice of exercises changes that.
